Gala Celebrates 10 Years of Service to Women and Children
This issue of our newsletter is dedicated to the committed volunteers, sponsors, supporters and guests who helped to make the 2012 New Beginnings Gala a tremendous success. The 2012 Gala was held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 with over 200 individuals in attendance. During the evening, BOS commemorated its 10 year anniversary with a video presentation that shared the story of 4 women whose lives have been touched by our program. Their stories highlight the true importance of how programs like BOS provide critical support to those who are in most need of help. The guests were entertained by the dynamic local band 4andO, while bidding on 125 fabulous silent auction items and original pieces of artwork. Graul’s Market donated the beer, wine and desserts for the event and Catering by Crabtree -- assisted by graduates from the BOS Culinary Arts Job Training program -- prepared delicious gourmet food, including our favorite crab dip and filet of beef tenderloin. Our volunteer bartenders, Lori Baskette and Bill Shupe, made certain that all the guests were adequately refreshed. Businesses and individuals generously contributed fine dining experiences, tickets to local attractions, great escapes near and far, family outings, a selection of fine wines, and beautiful new and estate jewelry. Daniel Billig of A. J. Billig & Co., donated his services as auctioneer, generating excitement for the live auction which included the Governor’s Box at Camden Yards for an O’s game, a week at a luxury Mexican resort and a rockfish fishing trip for four on the Chesapeake Bay. Guests were also given the opportunity to "Fund A Need" by bidding on field trips for the children in the shelter and work kits for culinary students. This was a new addition to the live auction and we were excited by the generosity of so many of the guests. Jo Bayne donated the graphic design services for our print materials. JW Boarman Company donated printing services for our invitations and save the date cards. Gregg Landry and Wes Hull worked hard to ensure that our audio and visual display and presentation went off without a hitch. The spring Gala, our largest event to raise funds for the women and children in the shelter, supports 10% of our annual budget. We are very fortunate to have the generous support of so many during these difficult financial times. Thanks to our friends, the 2012 New Beginnings Gala raised $86,000 for the homeless women and children in the shelter. In its nine year history, total funds raised through the Gala have exceeded $600,000! Thank you all for your help and caring support of the New Beginnings Gala. We hope that you will join us next year! A Special Thank You to Our Auction SupportersSo many generous individuals and businesses provide support to the New Beginnings Gala silent auction, we hope that patronize them throughout the year and let them know how much you appreciate their support of our mission to move homeless women and children to independence!
